U.S. RESOURCES AND CAPABILITIES
The goal of the NCI is to assist countries in developing the infrastructure capabilities and organizational culture that meet the appropriate standards for nuclear safety, safeguards, and security. The NCI also aims to build awareness of nonproliferation norms. The International Atomic Energy Agency's (IAEA) nuclear infrastructure development process, as outlined in the IAEA document, Milestones in the Development of a National Infrastructure for Nuclear Power," provides a comprehensive roadmap for a country considering nuclear power, including the 19 infrastructure developmental issues and associated milestones.
The NCI can assist countries in navigating the suite of U.S. Government programs and capabilities that can support countries in implementing activities to achieve the IAEA's milestones roadmap to nuclear energy deployment.
These programs and capabilities focus on developing the expertise within a country necessary to make decisions related to the size, scope, and approach for its civil nuclear program, as well as to understand and implement safety, security, and safeguards best practices and requirements.
The NCI can also facilitate international partners engagement with the U.S. industry and academic community.
